Part time lecturers are recruited by the university every semester to enhance staff capacity and ensure quality.

The courses in Educational Administration are serviced by staff in Educational Planning and Management while those in Curriculum Studies and General Methods are handled by staff from Teacher Education and Development Studies. This inter-departmental linkage and collaboration at Faculty level has enhanced professionalism and broadened the individual and institutional capacity to initiate and implement educational reforms, policies and programmes.

Students’ enrolment

The number of students on various courses varies from semester to semester depending on the courses taught. Majority are on private sponsorship. Below is an estimated number of students on the programmes taught in Semester 2, 2012/2013.

Tutorials:To enhance quality, tutorials for groups of 15 to 60 students are conducted in Professional Studies.

Research and publications

Our academics are actively involved in implementing the national and global educational reform through teaching, writing and presenting academic papers and undertaking research in education and related fields, at personal and supervisory levels.

Other research works currently on-going include the following:

  1. “An assessment of gender roles and traditional knowledge systems in enhancing climate change adaptation and household food security in Lake Victoria Basin, Uganda” (by Dr. Ayikoru Joyce Asiimwe);
  2. "The Impact of the Government's Science-based University Sponsorship Policy on Girls' participation in Sciences at 'A' Level: A case of Mukono and Wakiso Districts in Uganda" (by Ms. Opit Elizabeth);
  3. “Epistemological Foundations of Herbal Medicine in Uganda” (by Mr. Kuteesa Disan Mugenyi);

Collaboration/Networking-The department benefits from collaboration with other academic and professional institutions within and outside the country. We look forward to establishing new frontiers in Uganda and beyond to broaden further the academic horizons.

Future Plans

The Department is conscious of the national and international dynamics and demands in education and is committed to the University Mission and Vision. In pursuit of this, Plans are underway to develop a Masters Degree Programme in Educational Foundations (M.Ed-FED), among other innovations.
