PROGRAMMES

DEPARTMENT OF ADULT AND COMMUNITY EDUCATION

1. Bachelor of Adult and Community Education (BACE) – 3 years
2. Certificate in Adult Education (CACE) – 1 year
These programmes are very unique as they are grounded in adult and community education and in addition integrate many useful aspects of community development and special needs. The graduates of the programmes are well equipped to address the needs of different categories of people in communities, including People with Disabilities (PWDs) to realize their potential and contribute to personal and national development.
The department has linkages with the University of Dar-es-Salaam, Kenya Institute of Special Education, Patandi Teachers’ College, many NGOs, CBOs and FBOs. The department collaborates with a renowned international adult education NGO (dvv international) in the areas of teaching/learning materials development and research.

 

DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY AND DISABILITY STUDIES

Currently the Department offers five Programmes as shown below.
1. Post Graduate Diploma in Community Based Rehabilitation (PGD CBR) – 1 Year
2. Bachelor of Community Based Rehabilitation (BCBR) – 3 Years
3. Bachelor of Arts in Social Work and Community Development (BA SWCD) – 3 Years
4. Diploma in Mobility and Rehabilitation (DMR) – 2 Years
5. Diploma in Community Based Rehabilitation (DCBR) – 2 Years
This Department is known for its unique programmes offered in Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR), Mobility and Rehabilitation in Africa. They emphasize practical skills by carrying out community practice/field works two times.
These courses have attracted applicants from other parts of Africa and Europe. We have had applicants from the Gambia in West Africa and Denmark pursuing a Diploma in Mobility and Rehabilitation.
In addition to the programmes that were developed, the Department went ahead to Intitutional linkages with the Institute of Child Health, London. This was done through Prof. Sally Hartley of East Anglia University. This linkage culminated into the CARD Project where the staff of Kyambogo University are given opportunity to carry out Research together with other stakeholders, with the support of KA TUTANDIKE as Funders.

Production Activities
The department has a Braille Production Unit and receives orders from individuals and institutions in Uganda. It also has a workshop for assistive devices which is used for both teaching and production purposes. In addition, it has an SNE Materials Production and Information Services Unit.
