About Us

The Department of Mechanical & Production Engineering of Kyambogo University offers very rewarding theoretical and practical experiences to students.  The department has over the years developed strong industrial links for students' work placement, which lead to rewarding employment opportunities for our graduates.  The Department is recognised by academic peers, by students and by their employers within Uganda and internationally as a centre for Technology Excellence in mechanical engineering education.  It is a centrewith well-built innovation and practical touch. The department of Mechanical & Production Engineering is the largest department within the Faculty of Engineering of Kyambogo University having a population of 1300 students.

Welcome to the Department of Mechanical & Production Engineering at Kyambogo University.  Our objectives are:

  1. To prepare future engineers who are creative and are able to design, manufacture, manage, operate or perform and accomplish tasks efficiently.
  2. To prepare multidisciplinary engineers to meet industrial demands now and in the future equipped with technological knowledge and precision engineering paradigm.
  3. To provide our students with multidisciplinary capabilities to design products from concepts to manufacture by integrating cutting edge technology and mechanical equipment.
  4. To boost the department's international reputation as a Centre of excellence for student experience and employability through delivering education and conducting research that  are relevant to the regional economic block /development.
  5. To be the leading provider of employable graduates in the country through introducing the latest pedagogical concepts, novel learning and teaching methods, and practice-based research of relevance to the local and regional economic community of East Africa.
  6. To educate graduates who are ready to tackle the future, through programmes that  are designed to encourage and nurture innovation and independent thinking

Our Research Division

The Research Division works on solving problems of practical nature and importance. It also trains undergraduate student engineers through an intensive programme of the latest techniques in engineering design. The division is headed by Dr Jerome Ssengonzi Bagenda and assisted by Dr. Christopher Senfuka.

Research Agenda/ Research Activities

The Department of Mechanical & Production Engineering of Kyambogo University continues to be very active in research covering a number of specialized fields including Energy, Environment, Fluid Mechanics, Coating Cutting Tools Technology, Plastics Technology, Polymer and many others.
