The UG Design Summit will facilitate the showcasing of design outputs from Africa. It is also hinged on a successful Kampala International Design Conference (KIDEC) which was held in Kampala from 21st -24th July 2015.
UG Design Summit intends to offer a broad exchange of ideas by academia, design researchers and practitioners, and stakeholders from a variety of perspectives, disciplines, and fields across Africa and beyond.
Under the theme: “Weaving an Afrikan Design Mat”, the summit enables us to share design experiences and innovations woven by our diverse cultures, to gain a beer understanding of this world and how we as human beings are woven into it through design inputs and design outputs, provides another opportunity for Afrika to showcase its design-driven warp and we pattern of creative threads through Paper presentations, Keynote speakers, Exhibition and the Design fireplace (Ekyoto) for debating in a forensic manner some key topics that affect design research in Afrika.
Target: The summit will host scholars and designers from different industries including Advertising, Fashion, Interior, Photography, Illustrators and Animators, Product design, craft practice, Engineers, Technology, Ceramicists, Jewellery, Architecture, and Weaving among others. The four-day event is intended to explore design-driven tracks with a goal to spark conversation on design matters, inspire students, and educate professionals among others, with the intent to add a block on the development of Africa Design Identity (ADI) in the global arena.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
- Abstracts of 250-300 words *Clearly indicate whether oral or poster presentation;
- Abstracts should be in one continuous paragraph and include up to 6 keywords for online indexing;
- Abstracts should include the names of the author(s), affiliations, postal, email and telephone contacts, with the corresponding author indicated in a footnote;
- The full paper should be 3000-8000 words (6-16 pages) prepared in Times New Roman, size 12 font, with spacing of 1.5 and in editable text format;
- All references cited in the papers should follow the APA 7th Edition Citation Style.

DESIGN FIRE PLACE (EKYOTO)
Ekyoto is an evening design discussion intended to interrogate in a forensic manner some key issues that affect design research in Africa. The presenters will be distinguished key players in the design community.
GRADUATE COLLOQUIUM
The colloquium will be a unique opportunity for young researchers, PhD and Masters students to discuss research questions and ideas with experienced researchers, and practitioners, in order to facilitate their research effort. The session will be conducted by DRAW (Design Research Activities Workgroup).
