The Department of Foundations of Education (FED) at Kyambogo University is one of the academic units housed under the faculty of education of Kyambogo University. This department offers undergraduate and graduate courses providing the underpinnings of teacher education: diversity, philosophy, history, human development, educational psychology, learning, motivation, assessment, research, statistics, motivation and classroom management, technology and information literacy, and related areas.
The Department of Foundations of Education (FED) is committed to the highest standards in the areas of teaching, research, and service. The FED faculty members are committed to high quality teaching, produce important research studies, and are engaged in local and national community service. The undergraduate programs under Foundations of education offer a cutting-edge subject matter, relationships with award-winning faculty, and 100 hours of classroom observation.
With decades of classroom teaching and backgrounds in education sociology, ethnic studies, anthropology, physics, philosophy, measurement, educational psychology, sociology, and curriculum theory, the department’s faculty members provide an array of expertise to help students become well-equipped teachers.
The department members strive to enable their students to become educational leaders and future successful teachers. In addition to participating in the undergraduate teacher preparation programs, the FED offers a Master degree in Educational Leadership and a PhD degree in Leadership and Policy Studies in Education. These are important programs to prepare future researchers and practitioners.
