Kyambogo University was formed in 2001 by merging the three institutions that existed on the hill namely, Uganda Polytechnic Kyambogo (UPK), Institute for Teacher Education Kyambogo (ITEK) and Uganda National Institute for Special Education (UNISE). However, there were precursor institutions that existed way long before this e.g the Government Teacher Training College established in 1948 at Nyakasura, Fort Portal and Kampala Technical Institute established at Kyambogo hill in 1958. The graduates from Kyambogo University, its affiliated institutions and its precursor institutions constitute the bulk of its ALUMNI.
The new structure of KyU (2020) established the Advancement and Alumni Relations unit under the office of the Vice Chancellor. It is responsible for building and strengthening relationships with diverse constituencies that encourage investment and support the university through its programmes and initiatives, through alumni relations, organizing income generating events and other means of resource mobilizations such as fund raising, collaboration, and networking.
World over, higher education institutions rely on their Alumni for support, to build a brand name, to fundraise and contribute to the advancement of the institution.
Kyambogo University invites you, ITS ALUMNI, to be part of the strategy to make it bigger, stronger and more successful and to be part of its future not just its past.

Thank you for your sharing. I am worried that I lack creative ideas. It is your article that makes me full of hope. Thank you. But, I have a question, can you help me?
What a wonderful initiative by Kyambogo University to engage with its alumni! It truly fosters a sense of community. I remember my own university reaching out for similar reasons; it created opportunities that I never anticipated, like networking and mentorship. Maybe they could host more virtual events? Also, speaking of engagement, it’s interesting how platforms offering hollow knight games are bringing people from all backgrounds together—it’s such a fun escape! Keep up the great work reconnecting everyone
Can you be more specific about the content of your article? After reading it, I still have some doubts. Hope you can help me.
Great to see Kyambogo University building a strong alumni network! Your history and vision inspire pride. I’m honored to join this community and support your growth through engagement and fundraising. Let’s make the future brighter together!
They only reach out once they need “resource mobilization.” Hope they use a kanban board or something to actually organize this.
Didn’t know it went all the way back to the 1948 Nyakasura days. Way more interesting than playing apple picker game.
