Kyambogo University Top Managers have been trained on Quality Assessment in Higher Institutions of Learning. This was during a one-day workshop which was organized by the Quality Assurance Directorate (QAD) of Kyambogo University under the theme “self-identity.” During the workshop, the QAD shared the Project Action Plan (PAP) for self-assessment of the University’s Internal Quality Assurance Systems.

The Vice Chancellor of Kyambogo University, Prof. Eli Katunguka pointed out that quality Assurance and self-assessment are important for accountability and help cultivate a culture of excellence within the university.
The Vice Chancellor noted that one of the main focus areas of the University is in boosting its ability to generate income internally. “In order to do this, we will need to focus on resource mobilization and utilization, leveraging our research capacity and ICT.” Prof. Katunguka said
Self-Assessment is a key process for an institution to identify the focus areas that require immediate attention.
The Director Quality Assurance at Kyambogo University Sis. Dr. Maria Goretti Kaahwa, said that Quality Assurance involves constant improvement in the University’s systems, procedures, processes, policies and services to produce graduates that will positively impact the communities and labor markets. And because of this, there is need for constant checking and improvements in Quality Assurance mechanisms, systems, procedures, infrastructure and programs to ensure that stakeholders especially students receive high quality and relevant education which is changed into economical and innovation for human kind.
The workshop was facilitated by Rev. Eng. Dr. Emmanuel Mwesigwa, the Chaplain St. Kakumba Chapel Kyambogo, Rev. Dr. Cyrus S. Ssebugenyi, from National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), Dr. Richard Ouma from the Quality Assurance Directorate at NCHE and Dr. Robert Mulebeke, the Dean of Faculty of Agriculture at Kayambogo University.

During his presentation, Rev. Dr. Cyrus S. Ssebugenyi the Head of Standards, Recognition and Equation of Qualifications at National Council for Higher Education said that Quality assessment in Higher Institutions of Learning is a process of assessing the quality of what is actually provided by institutions.
He noted that the process of assessing the quality involves the judgment of performance against set standards. The purpose of assessment is for Continuous Improvements, Accountability to stakeholders and Accreditation.
