Kyambogo University Launches Braille Guild Constitution at the 22nd Guild Swearing-In Ceremony
In a historic ceremony, the university community witnessed the official transition of student leadership from the 21st to the 22nd Students’ Guild. Taking the podium one last time, the Outgoing 21st Guild President, H.E. Andama Emmanuel, opened his address by showcasing the refreshed, updated look of the Guild Office. Introducing the cabinet members who stood by him during the 21st Guild Executive Council, Andama reflected on what he described as an unprecedented and highly challenging tenure. “The 21st Council faced an incredibly condensed 7-month term, yet we navigated it with dignity.” H.E. Andama Emmanuel. In his address, Andama urged the incoming leadership to lobby for a system allowing students who have paid a minimum required percentage of tuition to sit for their exams, preventing financial administrative blocks from ruining academic progress. He called for structural reforms while simultaneously urging his successors to choose diplomacy over chaos.

The crowd erupted as the Incoming 22nd Guild President, H.E. Agaba Edward, took his oath of office. Edward Agaba, a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil and Building Engineering student, was officially sworn in as the 22nd Guild President of Kyambogo University on Thursday, May 29, 2026
Grounded by his core campaign ideology of “Sanitizing the System,” Edward expressed deep gratitude to the student electorate for putting their faith in his vision. “We will remain fully accessible, completely accountable, and we will front student interests directly to management without fear.” H.E. Agaba Edward
Edward issued a sobering charge to the newly elected members of the Guild Representative Council (GRC), demanding they remember the solemn weight of the oaths they had just taken. He promised a leadership style that balances aggressive student advocacy with strategic collaboration with university management.
The Dean of Students, Mrs. Bridget Mugume, brought major structural updates to the audience. She officially announced that under the newly minted Guild Constitution, the 22nd Guild House will operate with three distinct, independent arms of government: The Executive, The Legislature, and The Tribunal.
The University Secretary, Mr. Katongole Arthur, laid down the law regarding fiscal responsibility. As the university’s chief accounting officer, he issued a strict budgetary appeal to the 22nd Guild Executive and GRC, demanding rigorous planning and total transparency with the quarterly financial allocations released to them.
Mr. Katongole commended the outgoing team for maintaining absolute peace during their tenure and strongly warned the incoming team against student strikes. “Strikes bring counterproductive challenges that derail the very progress you are trying to fight for,” Mr. Katongole warned.
The Guest of Honour, Professor Justus Kwetegyeka (representing the Vice Chancellor), began his address with a momentous action: officially launching the New Guild Constitution, a document that allows visually impaired students to independently read, understand, and interpret the rules that govern their student government.
Professor Kwetegyeka showered praise on the Electoral Commission for pulling off a historic feat. This election marked the first time the university successfully conducted a completely digital, online electronic voting process. He acknowledged the physical renovation needs of the Guild President’s office, promising that management will see the upgrades through in tandem with the new leadership. While pledging absolute support, the Professor left no room for ambiguity regarding behavior. He firmly cautioned that management will not tolerate indiscipline, urging the new guild leaders “not to test the patience of the administration,” but rather to focus on doing the right things at the right time.
The ceremony concluded with a final charge to the incoming leaders to master the new guild constitution. With a fresh legal framework, upgraded digital backing, and a clear mandate from the students, the 22nd Guild administration officially begins its journey.
