Kyambogo University officially welcomed its newest cohorts of learners during a historic double ceremony held on Friday, 23 October 2026, at the Central Teaching Facility (CTF) Building. The 1st ever virtual Admissions ceremony combined the university’s 24th and 25th Admission Ceremonies, formally matriculating students admitted for both the 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 academic years across undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programmes at the Main campus and at the learning centers of Soroti, Bushenyi and Phaidha.
The landmark occasion brought together university management, academic deans, administrative staff, student leaders, and religious figures to usher the new scholars into the university community.
In his keynote address, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Eli Katunguka Rwakishaya urged the incoming class to take full ownership of their academic journeys, seek meaningful mentorship, and guard their personal integrity. He cautioned students against taking shortcuts, dishonesty, and theft, emphasizing that discipline and time management are the bedrock of future professional success.
Addressing broader social dynamics, the Vice Chancellor expressed concern over rising sectarian tendencies among youth, making a strong appeal for unity and mutual respect regardless of religious, ethnic, or social backgrounds. “Differences should not prevent students from learning together and contributing constructively to society,” Prof. Katunguka noted, calling for peaceful coexistence on and off campus.

Focusing on the evolving demands of the global workforce, Prof. Katunguka challenged students to embrace practical learning, entrepreneurship, and emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI). His remarks highlighted Kyambogo University’s strategic transition toward Competence-Based Education and Training (CBET). Following a university-wide staff-development initiative launched in June 2026, the institution is currently overhauling its teaching and assessment frameworks ahead of the full CBET rollout planned for the 2027/2028 academic year.
To support this digital and practical evolution, the Vice Chancellor highlighted ongoing technological infrastructure upgrades such as ACMIS and RENU Initiative. Prof. Katunguka also commended the expanding postgraduate department, celebrating the increasing number of scholars progressing from certificate and diploma levels up to master’s and PhD studies.
The ceremony provided a platform for student representatives known as Chief Freshers to highlight key student welfare matters. Student leaders acknowledged ongoing infrastructure progress including recent road developments near Kabaka Gate and renovation works in residential halls while bringing attention to areas requiring continued university support such as Dependence on part-time teaching staff and lecturer allocation, Renovation of campus roads, hall shower facilities, and classroom furniture and Enhanced resource allocation for university sports and debate clubs.

Prof. Katunguka acknowledged these contributions and expressed gratitude to the university’s religious leaders for their role in student guidance. He gave special recognition to the University Imam for hosting the Mufti during his recent campus visit, reinforcing the importance of faith, unity, and moral leadership in high education.
The celebration concluded with a symbolic ceremonial cake-cutting, after which Academic Registrar Dr. Annie Begumisa formally closed the proceedings.
Kyambogo University extends a warm welcome to all newly admitted students, wishing them a transformative journey defined by academic excellence, innovation, and service to society.
