About the MSC Research Fellowship Opportunity

Kyambogo University, in collaboration with the Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA), Schools and Colleges (SCOPE) Kenya, Schools and Colleges (SCOPE) Malawi, and Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), will be implementing a project titled “Strengthening Agroecology-Based School and College Food Procurement Programs in East and Southern Africa,” with support from IDRC. As part of the implementation plan, three (3) students from Kyambogo University, Machakos University, and Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) will be supported to pursue Master’s degree studies.

Eligibility Criteria

Interested applicants must be in the second semester of their first year of study. Prior knowledge of academic writing will be considered an added advantage.

Research Focus

The successful candidate will undertake research and practical trials in the following areas:

  1. Agroecology-based farming principles and technologies
  2. Procurement systems and school feeding programmes
  3. Participatory Action Research (PAR) methodologies
  4. Monitoring and evaluation approaches, such as Outcome Harvesting
  5. Participatory Integrated Climate Services for Agriculture (PICSA)
  6. Stakeholder mapping
  7. Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI)

  2. A 1–2 page statement of research interest aligned with the project objectives
