Public Lecture: Harnessing Carbon Market for Climate Action in Uganda

Uganda is exploring the potential of carbon markets to accelerate climate action and sustainable development. The government has initiated several efforts, including the formulation of a National Carbon Market Policy Framework and Strategy and the establishment of a carbon registry.

Carbon markets allow the buying and selling of carbon credits—each representing the right to emit a specific amount of greenhouse gases. These markets promote emissions reduction by offering financial incentives to companies and countries that lower their carbon footprints. However, their success relies heavily on transparency and accountability to ensure proper verification of credits.

This public lecture seeks to bridge the gap between academia, government, civil society, the private sector, and development partners in advancing evidence-based climate action. It aims to inspire collaboration and research-driven engagement in carbon market initiatives and policy development in Uganda.
