Kyambogo University’s Bushenyi campus organized a sports gala that included a football tournament for secondary schools in the Greater Bushenyi region. The four days’ tournament that run from 18th to 21st June was organized with the goal of promoting unity and collaboration among students and showcasing talent. 17 Secondary schools from Greater Bushenyi participated and the finals were held on June 21st, June 2025 at Bushenyi Stadium.

The tournament aimed at fostering unity, sportsmanship, and healthy competition among students from various Secondary Schools within western region. The Objectives were; to promote unity and collaboration among students from diverse educational institutions, provide a platform for talented footballers to demonstrate their skills and abilities, and encourage physical activity and healthy lifestyles among students.

The tournament followed a standard football format, with group stage matches leading to knockout rounds and culminating in the finals with Shema Girl’s School winning the girls’ match and St. Kagwa High school walking away with the trophy on the boys’ side. Matches were officiated by qualified referees to ensure fair play and adherence to rules.

The winning teams walked away with a heifer each and a trophy, while the players were awarded medals and certificates. Certificates of participation were provided to all teams.

According to Dr. Jackie Abenanye, the Centre Manager Bushenyi campus, the tournament brought together students from diverse backgrounds, fostering connections and promoting a sense of community and belonging. It also brought about the Institutional Pride where by Participation in the tournament instilled a sense of pride and belonging among Kyambogo University students, faculty, and alumni, further strengthening the university’s community and culture.
