Kyambogo University under the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering hosted the National Communications Conference (NCC2023) from October 3 to 4, 2023. The conference was organised under the theme “Sustainable ICTs in Uganda; Growth through responsible innovative solutions” This was organised in partnership with Uganda Communications Commission, Research and Education Network for Uganda (RENU), Makerere University, Busitema University, among others.
While speaking at the conference, the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) Executive Director Eng. Irene Kaggwa Sewankambo tasked Kyambogo university students to embrace research in a bid to champion innovation and sustainability in information technology.
She also noted that the 2023 NCC had offered an opportunity for players from academia, industry, and government to come together and discuss the most pressing sector-specific issues. It was also aimed at facilitating networking between junior and senior researchers and practitioners as well as students at different levels of study.
“This year’s conference objective was to present peer-reviewed research work, discuss engineering solutions to local challenges, and understand industry trends and needs”. Eng. Irene Noted
While addressing the participants, Prof. Eli Katunguka, the Vice chancellor of Kyambogo University, commended the Uganda Communications Commission for the good job they were doing in universities to strengthen communication research in Uganda.
“I also want to thank the Faculty of Engineering Kyambogo University for having worked closely with the Uganda Communications Commission and other partners to see that this conference becomes success”. Professor Katunguka added
Abel Kamagara the Head Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Kyambogo University pose with the cheque prize of 10M after emerging the winner of the best paper. The paper was titled “An Android-based Public Transport Information System”.
