The Ministry of Water and Environment, through the Appropriate Technology Center (ATC), has once again proven its commitment to local ingenuity by hosting a landmark innovation exhibition. At the recently concluded event, mechanical engineers from Kyambogo University, Mr. Ewer Xavier and Mr. Kugonza Emmauel, emerged as standout winners, securing 2nd place and 3rd place awards for two groundbreaking local technologies.
Mr. Ewer was officially recognized as the Second Runner-Up (2nd Best Innovator), taking home the Silver Award for his flagship creation:
- 1. Semi-Automated Chainlink Fence Making Machine

In addition, Mr. Kugonza‘s commitment to social impact was recognized with a Bronze Award for:
- 2. Automated Wheelchair for Disabled Persons

The two students extended heartfelt appreciation to the academic and technical backbone behind their innovations:
- Kyambogo University, Faculty of Engineering, led by Dean Dr. Charles Onyutha – for continuous institutional support.
- The Mechanical Engineering Department – for technical mentorship and workshop access.
- Faculty of Engineering Innovations Team leaders, Dr. Dickson Mugerwa and Eng. Mercy Kitimbo, for day-to-day guidance and unwavering belief in the work.
“We are so glad that two of our projects have been honored. This recognition belongs as much to the Faculty of Engineering and the mechanical department as it does to us.”
