Kyambogo University has entered a strategic partnership with the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) to undertake the construction and rehabilitation of the university’s internal road network. This milestone was solidified with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing the institution’s infrastructure.

The university intends to undertake rehabilitation and upgrading of five roads with a total distance of 1.318km at its main campus to bituminous standard. The roads include; UPK Engineering Road (0.312km), Kisosonkole road (0.312km), Mackay Loop 1 road (0.37km), Mackay Loop 2 road (0.185kms), and Mackay ring road (0.287km)
During the signing ceremony, the University Secretary highlighted that the primary motivation behind this partnership was Management’s desire to find efficient ways to improve the university’s infrastructure while ensuring value for money and minimizing costs. He assured stakeholders that all legal and administrative protocols were strictly followed. The MoU was presented to the Solicitor General for vetting and official clearance was received on April 1st.
The Managing Director of NEC, Lt. Gen. James Mugira, congratulated both Kyambogo University and the NEC team for reaching this milestone. He noted that NEC continues to deliver on its mandate through specialized joint ventures and subsidiaries, bringing professional engineering standards to national development projects.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eli Katunguka Rwakishaya, expressed his gratitude to the management team for their persistence in bringing the project to fruition. He lauded the partnership, citing NEC’s reputation for delivering high-quality work. “We are glad to partner with NEC. This is a historical moment for Kyambogo, and we are looking forward to a successful project that will transform our campus,” Prof. Katunguka remarked.
The Vice Chancellor also noted that this partnership aligns with the Presidential Directive emphasizing that government construction works be handled by the army’s engineering arm (NEC/UPDF) for efficiency and quality.
Prof. Katunguka revealed that the 1.318km road project is just the beginning. The University intends to further engage NEC for future works, including the construction of a robust perimeter wall to enhance the safety of the university community.
