In a bid to extend educational services to all areas in Uganda, Kyambogo University established Learning Centres in Soroti and Bushenyi. Not so many months after the establishment of the Soroti Learning Centre, Kyambogo University has signed an agreement with the Landlords of the Soroti Learning Centre, Diocese of Soroti.

The signing took place on Thursday, April 18, 2019, in the Kyambogo University Council Room. The Diocesan team was led by The Rt. Rev. Nicodemus Okile, Bishop of Soroti Diocese accompanied by Mr. Ochen Simon Peter, the Diocesan Chancellor. Kyambogo University team was led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eli Katunguka, together with Assoc. Prof. Fabian Nabugomu, the DVC F&A, Prof. Maria G. Namusoke, the DVC A A, Mr. Charles Okello, the University Secretary, Dr. Anne Mugisha, the Academic Registrar, Ms. Clare Ninsiima, the Senior Legal Officer, other top management team members and Soroti Learning Centre Manager, Eng. Moses E. Ogwapit

At the signing of the agreement, the Vice Chancellor thanked the Diocese for trusting the University with their facilities and property even when there was no binding document signed between the two institutions. He scoffed at rumours that the Learning Centre was about to close; assuring the public that the University Council has already confirmed the Centre and the University are set to elevate the Learning Centre to greater heights of both education and administration. He appreciated the efforts of Eng. Ogwapit, the Soroti Learning Centre Coordinator in developing the managerial structures of the Centre and called upon the University Secretary to actualise the agreement by processing the funds to pay the Diocese of Soroti.

On his part, Bishop Okile expressed his joy and appreciated Kyambogo University for ensuring that the agreement was signed. He added that the agreement will protect the relationship between Kyambogo University and the Diocese.
