Kyambogo University has sworn in seventeen new university council members to help successfully implement the university’s strategic objectives.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Eli Katunguka, the fifth council which was headed by Dr. Mary Goretti Nakabugo ended its term of office in September “I thank the fifth council members for their valuable contribution and working very closely with management in creating peace and harmony in the university. I am convinced that the sixth council shall contribute more extensively to rebuild the university further,” explained Katunguka.
Addressing council members during the constituting of the sixth university council meeting at Kyambogo university, on Monday 2nd December 2024 in the Council room, Katunguka said elected council members who come from different constituencies represent academic staff association, support staff, and top management while others come from Government.

According to Katunguka, when council members are elected, they not only push for the interests of their constituencies but also advocate for promoting the university.
When new council members took the oath of secrecy, High Court Judge Lawrence Tweyanze emphasized that “the oath they had undertaken calls for collective responsibility, secrecy, integrity, commitment, confidentiality, responsibility, to act with empathy but not sympathy, to be good listeners, be knowledgeable and always seek God’s guidance in their work.
According to Mr. Arthur Katongole, the University Secretary, upon the expiry of the fifth Council, Management wrote to different respective organs requesting them to submit names of persons to form the sixth university council in accordance with section 38 of the universities and other tertiary institutions Act 2001.
The 17 Members were submitted and the remaining with 7 members to constitute a full council. The new members sworn in include: Prof. Eli Katunguka Rwakishaya, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Maria G.N.Musoke, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Justus Kwetegyeka, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Finance & Administration, Eng. Dr. Christopher Ebal, Prof. Joseph Y.T. Mugisha, Prof. Fred Wabwire Mangen, Prof. Monic. B. Cyibita, Mr. Robert Bellarmine Okudi, Mr. Francis Muhumuza, Mr. Moses Atuherize Barisigara, Dr. Sam Lutalo Kiingi, Dr. Peter Obanda, Rev. Can. Assoc. Prof. Grace Lubale, Dr. Wilberforce Okongo, Mr. Kenneth Mbogo, Mr. Kigoonya John Ssempebwa, Mr. Munyagwa Lawrence.
