Kyambogo University is set to participate as Uganda hosts the Maiden International Conference of the African Indigenous Knowledge Research Network (AIKRN), taking place from May 20th to 22nd, 2025, at Imperial Beach and Resort Hotel, Entebbe.

The conference, organized by the Africa Indigenous Knowledge Research Network, the Institute of African Studies at Carleton University, and Kyambogo University, is supported by the Mastercard Foundation. It will bring together scholars, community elders, youth leaders, policymakers, and other stakeholders to advance the discourse on Indigenous knowledge systems and restorative development in Africa.

This landmark event is part of the AIKRN’s ongoing project: Unlocking Sustainable Solutions for Employment and Entrepreneurship: Empowering African Youth Through Indigenous Knowledge. The goal is to recenter and harness Indigenous African knowledge to address challenges such as poverty, unemployment, climate change, food insecurity, and governance.

Participants will present academic papers, share entrepreneurial experiences, and engage in policy discussions aimed at integrating Indigenous knowledge into development planning. Key highlights will include:

  • Keynote addresses

  • Plenary and panel sessions

  • Policy roundtables

  • Exhibitions showcasing products derived from Indigenous practices

  • High-level partner meetings

Expected outputs include edited academic volumes, policy briefs, podcasts, and media articles.
