Kyambogo University Women in Engineering (KYUWE), led by the president, Ms. Susan Kiiza, proudly participated in the 3rd Annual Oil and Gas Skills Expo 2026, hosted by Makerere University in partnership with the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU). Themed “From Oil and Gas to the Wider Economy: Transferable Skills Driving Sustainable Growth.” The two-day event brought together universities, industry leaders, government officials, and students to explore workforce development, national content, and the future of Uganda’s petroleum sector. Dr. Justin Jordan Pidho led the student delegation from the Department of Mining, Chemical, and Petroleum Engineering.

The event was opened with remarks from the Makerere University Vice Chancellor- Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe, Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) Executive Director- Mr. Ernest. T. Rubondo and the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development- Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa. Keynote addresses and panel discussions on national content, accreditation, and skills development set a high pace for the conference.

Kyambogo University proudly showcased two student-led innovations: FluiTrack, an IoT-based smart pipeline monitoring system developed by Mr. Swaleh Salim, Mr. Ssentongo Alkam Shaham, and Mr. Musoke Elvis, and a Biogas Monitoring System by Mr. Ahaisibwe Henry, highlighting the university’s growing strength in Engineering and sustainable energy innovation solutions.

The preliminary rounds of the Students’ Quiz saw Ms. Nassanga Sumayiyah and Mr. Nyombi Timothy representing Kyambogo University. This experience provided invaluable insights and motivation for future competitions.

Day Two featured sessions on government policy, research, innovation, and career development, with keynote addresses inspiring continued growth in Uganda’s petroleum workforce. Kyambogo University’s participation underscored its commitment to innovation, technical excellence, and professional growth.
