TO ALL STUDENTS
Welcome!
Happy New Year to you all and welcome back from the Semester break. This Semester I and II 2023/2024 Academic year officially began on Saturday 20th January 2024. A copy of the Academic Calendar for this semester has already been circulated.
I wish to congratulate all those who participated in Industrial Training, College and School Practice (ITCSP) and completed it successfully. I hope you acquired hands-on skills and were able to network and benefit from that exercise. Please ensure that you finalize your internship reports and submit them for marking on time.
Enrolment on ACMIS
It is mandatory for you to enroll on ACMIS at the beginning of each semester in order to notify the University that you have reported and are ready to continue with your studies. Enrolment enables you to know the amount of fees that you are supposed to pay during this semester. This is a free service on the system and should be done by every student as soon as the semester begins.
Teaching and learning
This semester which began on 20th January 2024 will last eighteen (18) weeks. Teaching began on Monday 22nd January 2024. I, therefore, urge you to adhere and attend Lectures. (Refer to the Academic calendar circulated by the Academic Registrar). This can be accessed on the University website www.kyu.ac.ug and notice boards at your respective Departments, Faculties and Schools. Also on the University Social Media handles such as X (@kyambogou). Accordingly, teaching timetables for this semester have also been prepared by your respective Heads of Departments and should be displayed on notice boards. All teaching staff are ready to ensure that adequate teaching and learning for students takes place.
Payment of University fees
You are required to pay all University fees (tuition and functional fees) in order to register within the first six weeks of the semester in accordance with the University Policy on Fees. There have been several incidences where students have diverted money meant for fees to betting and starting small businesses. This is wrong and you should avoid such temptation. I encourage you to immediately pay whatever amount of money is given to you by your parents/ guardians to pay for university fees and other education-related activities. The fees you pay contribute towards good service delivery at campus and to avoid inconveniences such as payment of late registration fee.
Central Registration
Central registration for all students is scheduled to begin on Monday 5th February 2024. This will be conducted at the Central Teaching Facility (Auditorium 105) for both government and private sponsored students. Students who have paid all mandatory university fees including National Council for Higher Education fees are encouraged to register with the University during the central registration. Remember, no student will be allowed to sit for examinations without registration. A detailed circular on this activity will be issued by the Academic Registrar.
End of Semester Examinations.
The end of Semester examinations will be conducted for a period of two weeks from Wednesday 15th May to Tuesday 28th May 2024. You will be given two weeks prior to examinations to prepare accordingly. Ensure that you have fulfilled the necessary requirements to sit examinations such as full payment of University fees in order to avoid being inconvenienced during examinations.
Conclusion
I wish to remind you to remain disciplined by adhering to the university rules and regulations. Endeavor to take your studies seriously since the university grading is cumulative i.e. every assessment contributes to the final award. Have a fruitful semester and may God bless you.
