In a significant boost to engineering education, Roke Telkom has donated a variety of engineering equipment to Kyambogo University. This generous contribution aims to enhance the technical skills of students and better prepare them for their future careers.
During the donation ceremony, Dr. Mugerwa Dickson, who represented the Head of Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering expressed his gratitude for the donation. He emphasized the importance of such contributions in improving the practical skills of students. Dr. Mugerwa also made a plea for future donations to include the latest equipment and called for internship opportunities to help students apply their classroom knowledge in real-world settings.
Mr. Peter Muhumuza, the Chief Technical Officer of Roke Telkom, highlighted the focus and dedication of Kyambogo University students as a key reason for the donation. He praised the students’ commitment to advancing their careers and professionalism, encouraging them to maintain this drive as it opens doors to job opportunities. Muhumuza also promised a follow-up visit to train students on how to use the donated equipment effectively.
Dr. Charles Onyutha, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, echoed these sentiments, noting that the equipment would provide students with valuable hands-on experience. He stressed the need for students to continually upgrade their skills in line with evolving technology.
Looking ahead, Dr. Onyutha expressed a desire for more collaborative engagements, including a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) focused on learning advanced technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT). He emphasized the importance of Roke Telkom’s role as a key stakeholder in the university’s efforts to produce well-rounded graduates.
Students and staff were urged to make full use of the donated equipment rather than letting it sit unused. Students also requested additional training opportunities to better understand the requirements for internships and job references.
This donation marks a significant step in strengthening the partnership between Roke Telkom and Kyambogo University, with both parties looking forward to further collaborations that will benefit students and enhance their educational experience.
