Entebbe, 12 February 2025 – Hon. Dr. John Chrysestom Muyingo, the State Minister for Higher Education, has called upon the newly inaugurated sixth Council members of Kyambogo University to leverage their diverse experiences and backgrounds to drive the institution’s growth and success. Speaking at the orientation event held at the Imperial Golf View Hotel, Entebbe, Dr. Muyingo emphasised the importance of the council’s role in providing strategic direction, formulating policies, and creating a conducive environment for the university’s continuous improvement.

“Over the years, Kyambogo University has expanded in size and stature, consistently improving, growing, and advancing,” Dr. Muyingo remarked. “As the supreme body of the university, you are expected to provide direction to the management, formulate policies to guide university operations, and create a conducive environment for the institution to flourish.”

Dr. Muyingo urged the council members to serve with compassion, dedication, and integrity, highlighting the detrimental effects of conflicts between governing bodies and management. “We have observed governing bodies that clash with management; this practice stifles progress. As council members, you no longer belong to your constituencies but must work towards the university’s objectives as one body.”

He also commended the university’s management for their efforts in infrastructure development and continuous enhancement of teaching and learning. “We appreciate management for the growth in infrastructure and the ongoing efforts in teaching and learning. Your endeavours are evident in the number of graduates produced each year. Please continue to strive for greater heights.”

The Minister’s address underscored the need for the council and management to build on the solid foundation laid by their predecessors, ensuring that Kyambogo University continues to thrive and produce graduates who contribute meaningfully to society.

For his part, the Vice Chancellor of Kyambogo University, Prof. Eli Katunguka-Rwakishaya, expressed appreciation for the government’s support in maintaining university operations.
