Kyambogo University is in high gear for the 3rd edition of the annual STEAM Festival, where the wonders of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics come to life. The festival with the theme “Demystifying Science, Technology, and Innovation for Community Development” is scheduled from April 22nd -26th, 2024, at Kyambogo University CTF grounds.
According to Associate Professor Edriisa Mugampoza, the Dean of the Faculty of Science, this event is a significant stride towards knowledge sharing and academic growth because it is an initiative to showcase the various research innovations and pedagogical interventions within the university. While the festival initially focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture, and Mathematics, we recognise the significant contributions of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. The festival provides a valuable opportunity for the university to acknowledge and strengthen existing partnerships and develop collaborations with various stakeholders.
The Festival aims to bridge the gap between knowledge creators and consumers, promoting appreciation of Science and Technology in community development. Ass. Prof. Mugampoza noted.
During an interview with our newsletter correspondent, Dr Savannah Nuwagaba, the STEAM Coordinator, elaborated on the three sub-themes that will focus on the upcoming 3rd edition of the STEAM Festival. The first subtheme will examine the role of Artificial Intelligence in education, while the second subtheme will emphasise the practical benefits of space science. The third subtheme will focus on developing strategic planning to mitigate climate change by preparing for the end of the fossil fuel era. Dr Nuwagaba’s insights provide valuable perspectives on the critical topics explored during this year’s STEAM festival.
“The festival is driven by a desire to cultivate a sustainable cohort of emerging scientists and innovators, empower researchers to identify and address matters of public interest and concern, enhance accessibility to research and its applications, and fortify policy-focused research in higher education institutions. It will also aim to foster an environment conducive to the professional development of researchers and innovators while promoting collaboration and interdisciplinary dialogue. By providing a platform for scholars, researchers, and industry professionals to engage in discussions, the festival seeks to provide novel insights and approaches to some of society’s most pressing issues today,” Dr Savannah added.
